I want a good quality knife, won’t break easily, and will stay sharp for a long while. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have several brands of throwing knives and ‘d have to disagree with prev. poster. United cutlery throwing knives are made of very soft metal. It is so soft that sharpening an edge becomes an issue, metal folds too quickly.
Now, that isn’t really a problem with throwing Knives in general, but you mentioned staying sharp long time.
In that case I’d recommend Cold Steel true flight thrower knives.
As much as I don’t like cold steel knives, those are one of the better quality throwing knives.
Made of 1055 steel which is plenty tough and holds reasonably good edge for a throwing knife it’s a pretty good buy.
Mini review here – http://zvis.com/knives/throwing/cstft.shtml

At some point Rigid knives also made pretty solid throwing knives – http://zvis.com/knives/throwing/rigid.shtml

In general, Throwing Knives and good edge holding don’t really go along. Throwing implies impacts with wood and other hard objects, so blades have to be optimized for high toughness/impact resistance, which is detrimental for edge holding ability, which requires higher hardness, thus more brittle blades.

I have 2 Mora craftsman knives. One in stainless, that I use i as a utility knife, and one triflex that I use for camping and hunting. I was wondering if a hollow ground edge is better for one application or another. Pros and cons.

If the Knives don’t already have a hollow grind, and they serve well like they are, leave them alone. A hollow ground edge is a little easier to sharpen and usually will be a little sharper after proper honing, but can dull quicker depending on the use, and will be more subject to edge chipping. Also hollow grinding is not easy to do, you can mess up a good blade very quickly without the right equipment and knowledge for such a seemingly simple project.

will this work from my big buck Knives a gutting knives to my pocket knives?

Small stones are a lot of work..Get a nice medium grit diamond impregnated wet stone. It will sharpen anything you want..a set for ceramic sticks (crock sticks) will put a very very fine edge on it.

I own a set of Throwing Knives but have no clue how to properly throw them. How am I supposed to hold them, what type of action do I use to throw them, etc? A web site with pictures on how to do this would be of great help.
Oh, and please no crappy sarcastic answers like “you throw them” and don’t copy-paste a wiki page if one exists. Thanks.

Hope that helps some. It’s got a picture and a diagram.

With that being the case, you want to make sure that your kitchen is fully stocked with the kitchen tools that will make it fully functional. So what do you need to have?

Well, take a look at our top 10 kitchen gadgets! A Can Opener: Almost every kitchen is full of canned goods, and you need a quick way to get those open to cook with. There are great can openers out there, and you will have your choice between an electric can opener and a hand cranked can opener.

A Coffee Maker: It does not matter whether you drink coffee or not, but you need to have a great coffee maker in your kitchen accessories. You will inevitably have people over who like to finish off their dinner with a great cup of coffee, and you certainly do not want to disappoint.

Tea: Just like you want to prepare for your coffee drinking guests, you do not want to ignore your tea drinking friends. Make sure that your pantry is chocked full of different types of teas. A good tip is to stock both caffeinated and decaffeinated teas for your guests.

A Steamer: It is among one of the most healthful and useful of all kitchen gadgets. Having a steamer in your kitchen opens up a cooking possibility that helps your food to hang on to as many vitamins as they can without sacrificing taste or appearance. Now that is something that you have to have!

Corkscrew: There is nothing more embarrassing than trying to figure out how to pop the cork on a bottle of wine without a corkscrew. You do not have to spend a fortune on this kitchen gadget, but you do want to make sure that you get one that is easy to use so that you can look like a pro the next time that you open a bottle of wine.

Pots and Pans: Your food is only as good as the kitchen accessories that you use to cook it with. This is really an area that you will want to invest your money in. You want a pan that is highly efficient, and that is directly related to how well your food will come out.

Knives: Just like pots and pans are important tools in the kitchen, so are knives. There are so many knives on the market and they range quite significantly in price, so what is so great about those expensive knives? Great knives will fit well in your hand and will retain their sharpness for a longer period of time.

Vegetable Rack: We are still really focused on our health, and a vegetable rack can help you with that. This will help you to keep track of how many vegetables you have eaten so that you can succeed in creating a more balanced diet for yourself and your family.

Glassware: You do not need to spend an arm and a leg on this kitchen accessory, but you want to have the right glasses for specific beverages. Why? By serving your beverages in the correct glasses, you will be enhancing the flavors of the drinks that you are serving.
