If it's an old piece of junk, maybe rusty,
just toss it in the trash.

If' it's in pretty good shape, give it the
salvation army along with old clothes
and other unwanted stuff... maybe
someone will have some use for it.
References :
Anything can be considered a weapon. It all depends on the mental state of the person that will be using it. I suggest that you either give the knife to someone who hunts, or E Bay it.
References :
Depending on the size, style and quality of the knife you might put it to good use in the kitchen.

Failing that you could just put it in a tool box, garage, shed etc. for when it might be useful.

Since it was a gift, I'd be reluctant to throw it away or sell it; but it may be better to give it to someone who'll use and appreciate it more than yourself.
References :
Just stuff it in your survival kit.

Or take it to a gun shop see it they could sell it on consignment.

Personally, I would keep it.
References :
A hunting knife could be classified as a weapon. But then so could about anything. In the right hands, a rolled up magazine could be classified as a weapon since it could be used to kill someone. If you want to get rid of it, mail it to me. I'll pay the postage.
References :
Anything can be a weapon. Your butter knives in your kitchen are weapons.

That said, you can sell it, give it away to a friend, or throw it away. If you do throw it away please wrap the blade in some cardboard and duct tape around it so the garbage man doesn't hurt himself. However, I think throwing it away would be kind of dumb when you could make a buck off of it or give it to somebody who will appreciate it.
References :
Any knife is a weapon.... Even a butter knife....

Give it to someone you might think would like it.....

If you have had it many years just be patient and the right person will come along that would enjoy it....

Dont throw it out....

Weapon??? --- Please! --- Just because somebody has it in there hand doesnt mean its going to magically make the person holding it want to hold up a gas station......
