ok, the only time i … ok, the only time i think a serrated edge would be ultimately useful is in tactical use, where i needed to cut through garments of some sort to get to flesh…and the serrated edge would give me an advantage in doing that, but as this blade is serrated in only a small part of the blade, and that at the back end, i don’t think it’s very functional, if i wanted to “lacerate” through clothing, i would want the serrations throughout the edge, thus giving me a greater chance to do so, just my opinion
nutnfancy said the … nutnfancy said the same thing about combo edge in one of his other vids, his reasoning was that if you keep your blades sharp you really don’t need that combo edge, and if you want serrations just go for a full serraded blade.
yes… it will … yes… it will read like this
KA-BAR
olean. n.y.
on one side and the other will say USA with a serial number under it. should be legit dont be worried unless it looks really phony. study some Ka bars if you are unsure.
ok thanks will all … ok thanks will all ka-bars have the Olean NY on the blade by the hand guard by the stamped USA. Im looking at somebodys used knife tonight and dont want to get screwed.
hmmmm, maybe there … hmmmm, maybe there has been a knife or knives mimicing the kabars design but not quality by phony makers with crapy steel.if your questions are based around this topic because you want to purchase one make sure it has a Olean NY stamp on the blade by the hand guard. go to a reliable knife dealer. surely they are all made here.
Hey, thanks for … Hey, thanks for posting this!
Not trying to start an argument here, just speaking for my self…I don’t like combo style blades at all. No serrations for me. If I need a saw, I’ll use one. I think having serrations right on the spot where I do most of my cutting would be a very poor choice. It is just not functional for me. Thanks again for putting up this video.
KA-BAR is American … KA-BAR is American made and the hole drilled in it is for a lanyard or rope for securing around your wrist, for long usage and saftey issues at times
are these knives … are these knives made in america or china, on the butt of the handle the metel peice i like the round one not the one with the drilled hole in it (what is the hole for)
i find this knife … i find this knife useful for splitting smaller wood. I was turned off by the serrated back end. I was scared to damage it if i use that to split. Is this true? I do own this knife and the heavy bowie and the k2 g10 tactical knife.
I love how you have so many versions of the same knife. it really helps.
kaskrinmasland: I … kaskrinmasland: I like how you’ve spent the time to watch a ten minute video regarding a user’s knowledge and experiences with several types of combat knives – and you’ve chosen only to comment about his mispronunciation of KABAR.
nutnfancy: Although I don’t have an extended history of collecting, or using knives, I can certainly appreciate the utility of such tools after your video. It was interesting and informativel – thanks for posting!
yeah i prefer the … yeah i prefer the bowie style ka bars over the tanto ones. but i still want a tanto one. but you are welcome for the tips. always nice 2 met a knife guy.
also you should get … also you should get the kraton G handle ka bar over the stacked leather handle one. cuz same story as the sheath. the handle will absorb water and swell up and take a while 2 dry. kraton g will also provide a better grip then leather.
also to prevent the … also to prevent the 1095 carbon steel from rusting or staining just cover your blade in oil. like gun oil hops 9 gun oil will work. theres a lot of different oils that prevent rust out there. also if you get the 1095 steel you should get the kydex sheath over the leather sheath. cuz leather will absorb and transfer water 2 your blade and if its not water resistant then thats no good. but if ur blade is oiled it will be ok but still might as well get the better sheath.
