ok theres to types …
ok theres to types of edging if ur talking about homanon <-obivuslly cant spell it it was made by butting a thick layer of clay on th eback of the blade and a thin layer on the edge i have whatched ppl forge swords nives etc and this was th e way i also have seen them use a special steel and use layzers to etch into the blade to coppy damascus steels patteren or the crystals in the blade structure but im not getting involved in argument i was just stating something

that’s funny, …
that’s funny, traditionally, the wavy lines on the blades were made by putting clay on the blade while it was heat treated and then the clay would have to burn away and the residie afected the way that the metal cured, but that’s just how they used to do it.

Yea, and if you …
Yea, and if you take a non etched Damascus blade, is there a pattern in it? No.
The pattern is made from two different steels, but you will never ever be able to see it without the etching.
You are acting like you know everything and I am wrong.
I know how Damascus steel is made (and for the record, it is only Damascus steel if it is made in Damascus, otherwise it is just forge welded steel, just like champagne is only champagne if it comes from Champagne).

Etching doesn’t …
Etching doesn’t make it damascus dude. The layers are put there during hammer forging and folding and folding.
The etching only reveals them.
If you etch a normal knife, it doesn’t magically turn into a damascus blade
March 31st, 2010 at 7:21 pm
Yea, its called …
Yea, its called etching, aka, submerging the blade in acid after it has been forged, is that not what I said?
March 31st, 2010 at 7:21 pm
No that is called …
No that is called etching, and it simply reveals the layers IF they are present
And drumgod is a moron as well
